Joan Phyllis Sowell, 78, of Tanner, AL passed away Monday September 29, 2025, at her residence.She was born October 26, 1946, in Alabama to William L. Southard, Sr. and Mary Lorena Ferrell.
Joan in preceded in death by her parents, one brother William L. Southard, Jr. and one sister Almeda Ann Southard.
She loved cross stitching, crocheting, sewing, mountains and nature. Joan was also a proud member of the Cherokee Nation.
Joan is survived by her husband William “Frank” Sowell of Tanner, AL; one brother Foy M. Southard, four nieces Wenona Southard, Quannah Southard, Tashina Southard, and Kayla Terry Grantland and nephew Forrest Scott Southard.
Visitation will be Friday October 3, 2025, from 12:00-1:00 at McConnell Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 P.M. with Bobby Graham officiating at McConnell.
Burial to follow at Pleasant Point Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Todd Smith, Scotty Southard, Foy Southard, Richard Smith, and Vick Ball.
