Roger Lynn DePoyster, age 72, of Florence, passed away September 9, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Time and date will be updated here when set.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Shadrach and Arminta DePoyster, and his brother, John Stanley DePoyster.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry DePoyster; his children, Rusty DePoyster (Samantha) and Wendy Scott; his stepchildren, Shannon Moseley and Chad Moseley; grandchildren, Jordan DePoyster, Jacealyn Claunch, Emily Gore, Katie DePoyster, Clay Condrey, and Charlie Moseley; and great-grandchild, Grayson DePoyster. He also leaves behind his loyal companion, “Good Dog” Jessie.
Born on March 1, 1953, in Selmer, Tennessee, Roger moved to Florence as a young child. He attended Mars Hill Bible School and graduated from Central High School in 1972. Following high school, he joined the Army National Guard and later spent 28 years as a Senior Instrument Mechanic with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), retiring in 2019.
Roger was a devoted member of Magnolia Church of Christ in Florence, where he served faithfully as a greeter. He was actively involved in ministries such as Room at the Inn and was always eager to serve others and share his faith. His church family held a special place in his heart.
A proud Alabama Crimson Tide fan, Roger found joy in gathering with family and friends, especially while grilling hamburgers and making his famous homemade ice cream—something he enjoyed “only if I’m by myself or with somebody.”
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Preferred Hospice and Preferred Home Health for their compassionate care.
Roger was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roger’s honor to the North Alabama Christian Children’s Home. PO Box 2652, Florence, AL. 35630
