Melba “Meb” Sloan, age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5,
2025. She was born October 6, 1939 in Larkinsville, Alabama to Alva and
Mattie (Shavers) Sloan. The three most important things in her life were her
church, her family, and her independence. She was a dedicated member of
Broad Street Church of Christ where she faithfully served for over 50 years.
She was often seen walking the short distance between her house and the
church. She was also extremely devoted to all of her family to whom she was
lovingly known as Meb. Her happiest moments were attending a variety of
family events from large celebrations to simple dinners.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ray; and her sisters, Fern Gamble and Mariah Auger.
She is survived by her twin sister, Merbil Reeves; her brother, Jimmy Sloan; and several treasured nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many friends, including her neighbors, Henry and Lynn, and the loving members of her church. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
Her funeral will be held at Scottsboro Funeral Home on Sunday, September 7,
2025 at 4:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the
service. She will be buried in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens.
