LEIGHTON-On September 2, 2025, at approximately 10:46 a.m., Deputy Briggs Wright responded to a motor vehicle crash without injuries in the 8000 block of 6th Street in Leighton.
Upon arrival, Deputy Wright located an SUV approximately 15 feet off the roadway in a flooded field. He immediately heard screams and observed the female driver trapped in the back seat of her vehicle as water was rising inside.
Deputy Wright quickly removed his duty belt and entered the water. He was able to open the passenger-side rear door and safely assist the driver out of the vehicle, guiding her through the floodwaters and up to the roadway.
The driver, was placed inside the patrol vehicle, where Deputy Wright provided his rain jacket, turned on the heat, and gave her water while awaiting her parents’ arrival.
The Driver expressed her gratitude for Deputy Wright’s swift actions and assistance.
