FREEDOM HILLS-Key Underwood Coon Dog Memorial Graveyard will continue its one-of-a-kind observance in Freedom Hills on September 1.

The Key Underwood Coon Dog Memorial Graveyard, located at 4945 Coondog Cemetery Road, Cherokee, will host its annual Labor Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will include barbecue plates, vendors, raffles, buck dancing, and the popular liar’s
contest. Live music will be provided by Baileytown, Joseph Baldwin, and The Cadillacs. All
proceeds benefit the upkeep of the cemetery.

The historic cemetery was established in 1937 when hunter Key Underwood buried his faithful
dog, Troop, at a favorite hunting camp. Today, more than 300 coon dogs from across the United
States are laid to rest there, making it the only cemetery of its kind in the world.

Lee Hatton of the Friends of the Coon Dog Cemetery Board said, “Please come out and support
our annual Coondog Cemetery Labor Day Celebration on Sept. 1. We look forward to seeing you
there for the BBQ plates, vendors, live music, buck dancing, liar’s contest and much more.”
