Mr. John William Matthews, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 in Camden. He was born January 26, 1951 in Madison County to the late George Ross Matthews and Sarah Crocker Matthews. He was U. S. Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam Era and a retired service writer at Helms Motor Company. He was an avid historian, automotive enthusiast, and loved firearms and learning about their history.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Ross Matthews, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Mrs. Diane Matthews; two sons whose accomplishments he was extremely proud of, Brandon Matthews (Desiree) and Alex Matthews(Stephanie); Chris McKeen, whom he looked at as a son; his brother, Dennis Matthews (Nancy); his niece, Jesse Snider; his nephew, Drew Matthews; two grandchildren; his two dogs, Lila & Gracee, two cats, Mandy and Bootsey; and his bird, General.
The family has chosen cremation. Graveside service details will be posted as soon as available.
