Anthony W. Thomas, a devoted husband, father figure, and friend, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 22, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Jan Cox Thomas; his stepchildren, Carol Trull Pittman (Eric) and Patrick Aaron Trull (Jessica); six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply. Though Anthony did not have biological children of his own, his love and devotion to his family were immeasurable, and he embraced his role as a father and grandfather with unwavering affection.
He is also survived by his brother, Edward Thomas (Edna), his sister, Gayle Thomas Smallwood (Danny), and numerous nephews and nieces who loved him dearly. Anthony was preceded in death by a sister-in-law with whom he was close, Joan Cox Barnett; and his parents, Clyde and Myrtle Russell Thomas. His mother shaped the foundation of his kind and generous nature.
Anthony was a pillar of the Corner community, known for his selflessness and readiness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He formed lifelong friendships with the “Old Guys at the Jiffy Chek,” where his infectious sense of humor and camaraderie left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His legacy of kindness and compassion extended beyond his family to his neighbors and friends.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Anthony served honorably aboard the U.S.S. Sierra, U.S.S. Tidewater, and the U.S.S. Conyngham, and his distinguished service exemplified his dedication to serving others. His strong work ethic extended to his profession and after 31 years, he retired from the Jefferson County Environmental Services Department.
His cremains will be privately interred. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends honor his memory by making a donation to the Wounded Warriors Project, a cause close to his heart.
