Reverend Dr. Roy W. Hall This Obituary was written with gratitude by Roy (Pop) Hall
After a year-long battle with cancer Reverend Dr. Roy W Hall passed away on May 7, 2025. He was father to two sons, Matthew (daughter-in-love Monica Mudd Hall) and Mark, grandfather to three accomplished and outstanding grandchildren, Eston, Addison, and Rose. He was married for 55 years to the supreme joy of his life, Linda Davis Hall. He is especially grateful to Linda, who filled his last year of life with endless blessings of love and care. How she functioned at such a high level of care amazed me as did so much of her life. She was exceptional in every way. I will always feel it was a marriage arranged in heaven.
Roy served as a pastor in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 46 years before retiring at the end of 2014. He received an English and Psychology major from Samford University, a Master of Religion and Philosophy from Samford, a Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological, and a Doctorate of Divinity from Sewanee University of the South. I will always be grateful for the church and its congregations for allowing me such privileges. My major concentration was seeking to unite the ancient liturgical renewal movement to the worship of the contemporary church – such as through studying the church year, paying attention to church seasons and rituals, and otherwise seeking to ground our secularist world in ancient biblical meanings and practices. It was part of an attempt to build our modern house “on a rock and not on the sand.”

Roy was preceded in death by wonderful parents, GE and Doris Hall. He also was preceded by brothers Harold, Carl, James, and Charles.

His surviving brother is Kenneth (Becky) of South Carolina. Roy is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, brothers and sister in laws who he loved dearly.

Roy was especially grateful to Dr. Daniel Schreeder, lead outstanding oncologist at CCI Huntsville for such passionate and expert care, and for many other kind and expert staff there. He also would like to thank North Alabama Hospice for their special care in his last months of life. Especially Cheryl Jett in addition to Anne Penney for their loving, compassionate and truly outstanding care. Roy especially enjoyed a lifetime of reading history, philosophy, theology, and historical fiction, and he truly enjoyed his 25 member golf group. All very special people.
