Graveside Services for Mrs. Mary D. Humphrey, age 76 of the Mountain Community, will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at the Clay County Memory Gardens with Bro. Lane Elliott officiating. There will be no public visitation prior to services.

Mrs. Humphrey passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025 at the UAB Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Clay County, began her work career at the Ashland sewing company, but eventually settled at Russell Mills Manufacturing, working for 26 years. She last worked as a hostess for Red’s Catfish in the Mountain Community. Mrs. Humphrey enjoyed reading, doing cross stitch, and participating in the Choir at Bethel Baptist Church (South). She loved to talk, was very inquisitive and full of questions.

Mrs. Humphrey is survived by her husband of 36 years, Harold Humphrey of the Mountain Community; her children: James Eric Spivey (Carolyn) of Ashland and Angie Lee VanHerwyn (Ron) of Mackenzie; three grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren’ one sister, Sheila Harbin of Ashland, plus several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: L.B. and Angie Pearl Wheeles Denney; one brother, Wayne Denney; and one sister, Joyce Brannock.

Active Pallbearers will be Wesley Spivey, Danny Yates, Donald Gibson, and Jim Branch.

The family requests no Flowers; instead the family would prefer donations to be made to local churches or Charities in Mrs. Humphrey’s honor.
