Richard Alan Stutts, 78, of Tuscumbia, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025. There will be a family ceremony at Grace Episcopal Church columbarium with Reverend Danielle Thompson officiating.
Dick was a native of Florence, Alabama and a graduate of Coffee High School and Florence State College, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Sheffield where he served on the vestry and as a past co-leader of the Sunday School program. He was a past member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as summer counselor at Camp Jackson; Deshler High School booster club; Red Elephant Club; University of Alabama Alumni Association; University of North Alabama Alumni Association; Friends of Helen Keller Library; Kiwanis of Tuscumbia, where he served as a past president; and Rose Trail Hunting Club.
His employment history was as varied as his talents. It began with Speake Elementary School 6th grade teacher, Courtland High School history teacher, Smith Kline & French pharmaceutical salesman, IMC Fertilizer salesman, and CEO at Applied Plastics Corp (Retired).
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Holland Stutts and Henry Lee Stutts.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jacque Gibbs Stutts; daughters, Molli Stutts Kirby (Tyler) and Leigh Stutts Heifner (Byron); sister, Nancy Stutts Frye (David); grandchildren, Harrison Heifner, Blake Kirby, Ella Heifner, and Leighton Kirby; and other family members.
Honorary pallbearers include Charles Lowe, James W. Cox, David Frye, Gregory Motes, Jearl Weeks, Randy Simpson, and John M. Gibbs.
The family expresses special thanks to the staff of Hospice of North Alabama especially Machelle, Ginny, Laura, and Daniel and to Alexis and Ester of Brothers Keeper.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church.
