Maurice Leon Alsbrooks, 94, Sheffield, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Visitation will be Friday, April 7, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Wade Hunt officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield.
Leon was a graduate of Sheffield High School, Class of 1945, and a member of the SHS football team from 1942 – 1945. He entered school at Auburn on a football scholarship in 1946. Leon was a member of Cox Boulevard Church of Christ. Leon was employed by Reynolds Metals (Alloys) for thirty-five years. He served with the 45th Division, US Army from fall of 1950 to fall of 1952, in Japan and Korea. Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Smith Alsbrooks; parents, John A. and Ethel M. Alsbrooks; and sisters, Evelen Cooksey and Lillian Aycock.
Leon is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ben Humphries, Steve Humphries, David Branscomb, Daniel Branscomb, Robert Evans, and Frank Hooks. Bryant Chappell and Marc Humphries will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family offers special thanks to Eldercare, Dee Musselman, Carrie Hooks, Carrie Thompson, Hannah Michaels, Carol Skelle, Madison Eck, Holly Eck, and Charlena Hillman, all who went far above and beyond their duties as caregivers. Leon thought of them as family. Also, thanks to Hospice of North Alabama and special nurse, Nancy. A special thank you goes to best friend David Branscomb, who was a beautiful example of Christ’s love in action. Also, thanks to Cox Boulevard Church of Christ and Pastor Wade Hunt for all the visits, cards, and food brought by members through the years. And special thanks to Sherry James, who, even throughout her own illness, continued to minister to Leon with food, visits, and cards.
