John Loyd Dupree  John Loyd Dupree, 66, of Muscle Shoals, died April 4, 2023. The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, April 8th, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia. A graveside service for family and friends will immediately follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Central with Jim Stanphill, Jr., Esq. officiating.

John was born in Florence, Alabama, on May 22, 1956, to Hiram Loyd and Betty Jane Dupree. John graduated from Muscle Shoals High School in 1974. Like his father and grandfather before him, he was a member of Ironworkers Union Local 477 and worked for nearly 30 years at Reynolds Metals.

John was also very active in the community. He loved coaching youth sports and played a memorable role in the lives of so many young men. John served on the City Council where he was instrumental in such major capital investments as the building of the new high school, library, and the citywide flood control system. John’s greatest accomplishment came when he earned the nickname Pops.

John was preceded in death by his dear mom, Betty Broadfoot Dupree, and sister Pamela Dupree Farned. He is survived by his beloved son, Jonathan Chase Dupree; grandson, Ayson Joe Dupree; granddaughter, Keelee Senf; father, ‘Shorty’ Dupree; his sister, Darlene Dupree; and former wife, Donna Campbell Dupree, all of Muscle Shoals.

Pallbearers are Dusty Farned and Jake Campbell, Jerry Pruitt and James Brumley, AJ Pruitt and Jackson Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Chuck Campbell, Heath Colcock, Steve Cummings, Nathan Davis, Donnie Phillips and Ronnie Phillips.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to his many caregivers over the past year. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
