Dennis Joseph Patrick O’Hara, 87, a resident of Cullman, Alabama, died Saturday, November 19, 2022, at home with his family. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Carroll Hefner at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church in New Orleans, Louisiana on Friday, November 25, 2022, at 11:00AM. Interment service at the German Cemetery in Kirksville/Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, will be officiated by Fr. James Martin Nobles, O.P.
Denny is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Carole Chauvin O’Hara; children, Molly Ann Chauvin O’Hara and Dennis Joseph Chauvin O’Hara (Bubber); and nephews, Charles Joseph Tracey, Jr., Sean O’Hara Tracey, Dennis Logan Tracey, and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dennis Joseph O’Hara and Ruth Ricks O’Hara; one sister Mary Ann O’Hara Tracey; his first wife Edrith Champagne O’Hara; and, “Meme” Barbara Toups – beloved caregiver for our children in their early years in Raceland, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cullman County Center for the Developmentally Disabled (Margaret Jean Jones Center) in Cullman, Alabama, or Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The family acknowledges the loving support and kindness of the staff at CenterWell (formerly Kindred) Home Health and Kindred Hospice. Special thanks is extended to his devoted caregivers Renetta Chappell, Betty Hauk, and Delisa Inman; Fr. John O’Donnell, OSB – St. Bernard Abbey, Cullman, Alabama; Fr. Allan Weinert, C.Ss.R. – Pastor of St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church; Fr. Hefner and Fr. Nobles.
Staff at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home in Cullman, Alabama, and McKneely Funeral Home of Amite and Kentwood, Louisiana, have been exemplary in assisting the family with end-of-life arrangements.
