FLORENCE – After several years of dreaming about a beautiful, new Visitor’s Center, the folks at The Tourism Board are right at the cusp of a new day. At this week’s monthly meeting of the Tourism Board, it was announced that the project, which actually came in at a lower cost than anticipated, is about to break ground.
Here is what Libby Watts Jordan told The Quad-Cities Daily:
“The Florence/Lauderdale County Visitor’s Center is a step closer to beginning construction as the Board today reviewed the $1.7 million dollar low bid. The 7,500 sq ft. center will be located in McFarland Park in Florence, AL, next to the harbor. This will be the first true visitor’s center in the area with exhibits and interpretive displays that will tell the story of the Shoals and offer visitors a glimpse into our unique recreational, historical, and cultural offerings. Work on the building is expected to begin in March with a late fall opening.”
