Gwendolyn Burleson Engle passed away at her home in Decatur on Monday night, February 4, 2013, at the age of 82. Mrs. Engle is predeceased by her parents, General Jackson Burleson and Martha Jane Mann Burleson; her brothers, Athel, Sherman, Golden, Alton, Elvis and Leo Burleson; and sisters, Ellen Burleson and Ellie Mae Postell.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Gene Engle. They were married on July 9, 1954. She is also survived by her daughters, Sandra (Gayron) Hodges of Decatur, Debra (Greg) Martin of Huntsville and Ginger (Mark) Hall of Huntsville, and by her grandchildren, Kristen Hodges of Huntsville, Katie Hodges of Nashville, Hayden Martin, Benjamin Hall and Samuel Hall, all of Huntsville. She is also survived by one sister, Arvie Burleson of Nobleville, Indiana.
Gwen was born in Marion County on July 12, 1930. She graduated from Hackleburg High School in 1948. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother, “Nana,” and friend, who enjoyed gardening and sewing. She was also an Avon representative for 25 years.
Visitation for Mrs. Engle will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Her funeral will be Thursday, February 7, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Dr. Steve Chandler will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley or to theAlzheimer’s Association .
