Martha Kate Jones, age 97 of Winchester, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family and friends. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Estill Springs on February 16, 1924 to the late Hugh and Jessie Jernigan. Before her retirement, Kate was employed as a seamstress. In her spare time, she enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family and friends. Kate was a dedicated member of Oaklawn Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the time of fellowship with the Ladies Group of the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clayton Jones; son, Clayton Earl Jones; and nine siblings. Kate is survived by her son, Harold T. (Tina) Jones; daughter-in-law, Shirley Jones; granddaughters, Jennifer (Scottie) Riddle and Joy (Hal) Hill; great-grandchildren, Clay Riddle, Katee Riddle, Analyn Riddle, Bethany Hill, and Haley Hill; sister, Marie (Arnold) Statham; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 1:00pm on Monday, January 24, 2022 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Ray Gardner and Bro. Johnny Mayes officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Oaklawn Baptist Church.
