In all towns, especially smaller communities there are some people that everyone seems to know, maybe even have a favorite, that one person that’s able to fix or repair anything that has an engine and runs. One of these men was Freddy Webb and his name is synonymous with Webb’s Auto Repair who he and his father, Russell, started back in 1985 down from their home on Old Huntingdon Road. And today, Sunday, March 14, 2021, Lexington lost one of those special mechanics, Freddy.
Freddy the youngest of four, was born on Friday, April 21, 1961 at Conger’s Clinic in Lexington to Russell and Martha Belew Webb of Lexington. At an early age, on a dirt bike, he was drawn to speed and always going fast; something that never left him. And when speed wasn’t enough he would ride his trademark “wheelies” up and down the road. As the years moved on, the horsepower grew as well as the thrills when he started dirt track racing in towns like Garnertown and Milan and drag racing in Jackson, Dresden, Memphis and sometimes, doing both on the same weekend with success! You see, Freddy was all about speed. But if he wasn’t at a race track you might find him jug fishing at the area lakes. And if you ever met Freddy, you’ll always remember his sly smile, realize that you probably made a friend for life and have at least one funny story as a memory.
Family was important to Freddy and he is blessed to be survived by both of his parents, Russell and Martha Belew Webb and his two children, son Terry Webb and his wife Tiffany and a daughter, Shonda Webb; four grandchildren: Mykenzi and Mykayla Duke and Tinleigh and Tucker Webb; his older brother, David (Brenda) Webb and his two sisters: Anita (Larry) Mullins and Janet (Steve) Threadgill; extended family includes his nieces: Melissa (Kelcey) Brown, Jennifer (Dean) Stovall and Stephanie (Billy) Bell and nephews: Reid (Cassie) Mullins and Rob McDaniel and 6 great nieces and nephews.
The visitation and the funeral service for Freddy will be held at the church where he was baptized at age eleven, Broad Street Church of Christ of Lexington. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 – 8:00 PM and Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of service at 2:00 at the church with P.J. Hardy and Gary Sorrells officiating. Interment will conclude at Beech River Cemetery, just a few yards from where Freddy spent his childhood and the garage that he worked. The Webb family request that all visitors at the church please wear a mask and take safety precautions.
