Edna Metheny Bryan, 98, of Madison, passed away Sunday in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born in Terra Alta, West Virginia on December 23, 1921.
She was married to Coy Wendell Bryan for 68 years until his death. Edna was a fulltime mother to her family for a long time and provided loving care to everyone who needed it. She retired from State Farm Insurance after many years. She loved working in her yard and growing orchids and vegetables. She loved to make things grow. Edna was a very friendly lady and enjoyed fellowship with many people.
Edna was a member of the Austin, Texas and Huntsville, Alabama Orchid Society. She volunteered at Huntsville Hospital, and Huntsville Botanical Gardens. She was a member of the Ben Hera Court 91 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, where she served as High Priestess. She was a previous member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Monrovia, and a current member of University Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan Thomas Glenn; son, Dale Bryan (Sharon); grandchildren, Bryan, Stacey, Brandon, April and Dale II; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Grace Metheny, five sisters, five brothers, and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the chapel with Dr. Bobby Burt and Rev. Eddie Hilderbrand officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
