Jerome (Jay) K. Gore, beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on September 5, 2019.
Jay is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley Gore; sister Eva Black and brother-in-law Don Black; three children; Greg Gore (Kathy), Melissa Gore Hyde (Jeff), and Scott Gore (Cathy); six grandchildren, Katie Rogers, Claire Gore, Carrie Ann Gore, Addison Gore, Anna Grace Hyde, and Brooke Hyde; and one great-grandchild, Gregory Dominic Rogers.
Jerome was born on May 25, 1929 in Dexter City, OH. After graduating from Dexter City High School in 1948, he enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served on the USS Midway. He attended Kent State University and graduated in 1955. His professional career included working with the Boeing Company and the US Army Missile Command. Throughout his career, he traveled all over the world in support of airmen and soldiers.
Jerome was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was recognized for 50 years of faithful service and loyalty to the principles of Freemasonary as a member of Dothan Lodge No. 466 F. & A.M. Jay lived a quiet, simple life and lived by the thought that a “thing of beauty is a joy forever”.
A memorial service honoring Jerome’s life will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church on Monday, September 9th at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lakewood UMC general fund. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
