John Thomas Buffler, age 65, of Florence, passed away on January 16, 2019. A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2019, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Visitation will follow from 11 a.m. until noon, with the Mass of Christian Burial starting at noon. Father John O’Donnell, O.S.B. and Deacon Steve Kirkpatrick will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery.

John was born and raised in the St. Florian community, a community he continued to call home for the remainder of his life. He traveled throughout the country with his job as an insulator with the Insulators Local 78.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy Buffler. Survivors include his children, Mary Elizabeth Buffler and husband, Daniel Hodgkins, and John Augustus “Gus” Buffler; sisters, Mary Louise Howe (Norman), Ann Mitchell, Barbara Jean Buffler, Frances Holder, Martha Crittenden (Alex), and Agnes Springer (Donnie); and special lifelong friends, John B. Kasmeier and his family.

John had many, many close friends, and his greatest joy in life was making people laugh, usually making fun of himself in the process. Many “John” stories have been shared among friends and family since his death, and as people are laughing, John is well pleased.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. You may sign the guest register at sprywilliams.com
