Wanda Pledger Richardson was born July 7, 1927, the second child to Bob and Charlcie Pledger. She grew up in the Horton community, working on the farm and helping with her younger siblings. Early on she attended Nixon Chapel School, Horton School and then Douglas High School. When she was eighteen she married C.A. “Bunk” Richardson on November 11, 1945. He had only been home two weeks from England, having served as a soldier in WWII. Several years later two boys were added to the family making their lives complete. Wanda and Bunk lived their entire married lives in Douglas Al, raising their sons in a happy and blessed home. Wanda and Bunk loved their families the Pledger family, the Richardson family, and the Downes family. Fish fries, family meals, cake, and coffee were served at their table hundreds of times with funny stories and constant laughter always being shared. Among her favorite hobbies were cooking and reading, Wanda loved to read historical fiction and poetry. She usually read three to four novels a week up until the age of 88. Wanda worked for twenty-five years as a general aide and Library Aide at Douglas Elementary School, with Robert Sloman being her principle. She often said he was the best principal in the world. Wanda was deeply loved by her son, Rod, her sisters, and her whole family, as well as her Church family and a multitude of friends and she, will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home, with the Funeral Service Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Chapel and burial to follow at Douglas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers make donations to Shepherds Cove Hospice or the American Parkison Disease Association.
