Elizabeth Anne Dozier Jones – Obituary

Elizabeth Anne Dozier Jones, 68, of Huntsville, passed away Monday. She was born in Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington, D.C. to the late Slater Mathew Dozier and Annie Mozelle Ryan Dozier.

Mrs. Jones graduated from Gadsden High School in 1968, received her BA with distinction in Mathematics and English from Jacksonville State University in 1971, and her Ph. D in Experimental Psychology in 1975. Mrs. Jones was Assistant Professor at the School of Psychology at West Virginia College of Graduate Studies in Charleston, and was a school psychologist for Birmingham City Schools. Her most treasured “job” was being a mother to her two children, wife to her beloved husband, and Bebe to her precious grandsons.

She was active at St. Thomas Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Altar Guild and Daughters of the King. She was involved with her community with Progress Place, Hospital Hospitality House, Huntsville Junior Women’s Club, Huntsville Music Study Club and Madison County Medical Alliance.

Survivors include her husband, John Michael Jones; children, Rachel Elizabeth Jones Dwyer (Devlin), and Peter Michael Jones (Clothilde); grandsons, Hoyt Ryan Dwyer and Owen Austin Dwyer; and siblings, Judith Dozier Sapp, June Dozier Scarborough-Appell (Robert), and Philip Mathew Dozier (Debra).

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, October 18 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The funeral service will follow at the church with the Rev. Paul Pradat officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, Alabama Wildlife Federation Friends, Inc., Clearview Cancer Institute to honor Dr. Paul Dang and the nurses and staff of Crestwood Center, Huntsville Hospital to honor Dr. Rami Howari, Dr. William Nuessle, and Dr. Ross Hunter, Hospice Family Care to honor Dr. Rob Hash and the nursing staff, or St. Thomas Episcopal Church Priest Discretionary Fund
