Mary Theresa Hungate Elkins, 76, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on Friday October 12, 2018. She was born in Lexington, Kentucky, November 20, 1941, the daughter of the late Marvin Lee and Mary Hurley Hungate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Elkins in 2009 and brothers, Michael David Hungate and John Hurley Hungate.
She graduated from Lexington Catholic High School in 1959 and attended University of Kentucky, Calhoun College and University of Alabama Huntsville. She was employed over 30 years with U.S. Army and NASA contractors. She volunteered with community organizations and her church much of her adult life.
The family moved to Huntsville in April 1976 when Mr. Elkins accepted employment at U.S Army TMDE Activity at Redstone Arsenal.
Mrs. Elkins is survived by her daughter, Mary Marcia Elkins and husband, Edward L. Stone, Huntsville. She is also survived by her brothers, Marvin Lee Hungate, Huntsville, and Christopher Michael Hungate and his wife, Pamela, Lexington, Kentucky; sister, Ellen Hungate Stewart, Savannah, Georgia; nephews, Gregory Michael Stewart, Savannah, Georgia; John David Hungate, Lexington, Kentucky and David Michael Hungate, Erlanger, Kentucky.
Visitation will be at Laughlin Service Funeral Home on October 19, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday with Father Michael MacMahon officiating.
Visitation in Lexington, KY will be at Kerr Brothers on Main Street on Tuesday October 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be immediately after at Calvary Cemetery.
