Jay Ricky Brewer of Tuscumbia passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Visitation will be Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Stuart Sockwell officiating.
Ricky was born on April 24, 1954. He was a native of Florence and a longtime resident of Colbert County. He started with the United States Postal Service in 1973 and was Postmaster for the past 20 years. He was a member of the UPMA, past president of the Exchange Club, past president of NAPUS, the legislative representative for the United States Postal Service, and a past member of the Jaycees.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, Marc Nix; father, J.C. Brewer; and grandparents, Everett and Jewel Wallace.
Survivors include his wife, Sheree Sockwell Brewer; stepdaughter, Holly Booth (Mike); mother, Mary Brewer; sister, Beverly Bates (Phillip); sister-in-law, Staci Brewer; brother-in-law, Stuart Sockwell (Beth); grandchildren, Magan Borden (Colby), Bradley, Morgan, Mac, Addison, and Peyton Booth; daughter, Stacy McKean and her daughter, Grayson; and several nieces and nephews.
Ricky was a selfless person, always putting others before himself. He was a loving husband and an amazing Big Daddy to his grandchildren.
