THE SHOALS-BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, Technology) is a national program designed to inspire and interest students in engineering, science, and technology through participation
in an exciting sports-like technology contest.  The BEST Robotics competition aims to excite K-12 students about engineering, science, and technology as well as inspire them to pursue careers in these fields.

The BEST competition challenges teams of students to build a remote-controlled machine using only the materials provided. The teams are given six weeks to design, develop, and test the machine before competing against other teams in a head-to-head competition where the machine must perform certain tasks.

In addition to the hands-on designing and engineering aspects of the competition, teams must also develop a marketing strategy for their machine.  Teams research related industries, careers, processes, and equipment to develop Engineering Notebooks, Marketing Presentations, and Trade Show Booths.

The theme of this year’s event is Crossfire, Fire & Rescue.  The BEST program is offered at no cost to participating schools.  For more information on the BEST Robotics Competition, please visit the NW AL BEST website.
