FLORENCE-The City of Florence will hold a dedication ceremony for the historical marker for Coffee High School on June 10 at 2:00 PM. The ceremony will take place at Hermitage Drive and Walnut Street.
Coffee High School opened in the fall of 1917. The land for the high school was donated to the city by Camilla Coffee in honor of her late husband Captain Alexander D. Coffee son of General John Coffee one of the founding fathers of Florence. Because of the generosity of Camilla Coffee the school was named Coffee. The first graduating class in 1918 consisted of 13 students.
The last class to graduate from this site was in 1951. The school moved to the new and larger Coffee High School just east of the old location. The school burned in 1984 and was razed in 1985.
