TUSCUMBIA—Compelling Stories of the Southeast invites the public and First Nations to the 24rd Annual Walk of Life, Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Starting at Tuscumbia Landing in Sheffield, walkers of all ages will follow a two-mile route east, symbolically reversing the historic Trail of Tears, welcoming Indigenous Peoples back to the Southeast, their homeland for 10,000 years, in a gesture towards healing and community.
This year marks a historic shift for the Walk of Life from September to the second Saturday in November. While continuing to recognize and honor the past, this date change to Native American Heritage month in November focuses the event on gathering in community and walking together into the future.
This free, family-friendly event takes place rain or shine. Transportation is provided for participants who need assistance. First Nations participants are encouraged to wear their traditional regalia.
