Gloria Sue Powell Johnson, age 87 of Athens passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Johnson was born on July 30, 1929 in Limestone County to Lawrence Eugene and Essie Mae Morris Powell.
Preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Essie Mae Powell; husband, Thomas Edward Johnson; son, Thomas Eugene Johnson, and grandson J. Michael Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by two daughters; Jan Johnson Hargrove and husband Billy of Athens, and Dinah Johnson Beard of Athens; grandchildren, Scott Hargrove of Athens, Jenny Sims of Athens, Gracie Johnston of Mobile, AL, and Jack Beard of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Hudson Sims, Beasley Hargrove, Lily Sims, and Sloan Hargrove all of Athens.
Services for Mrs. Johnson will be Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at First Methodist Church of Athens at 1:00PM with Dr. Kenny Baskins, and Bro. Bill Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:45 at First United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in the Athens City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Steve Beard, Fred Bickley, Fred Cole, Harlow Fikes, Oran Johnson, Robert Johnson, Henry Johnston and Mike Maggard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County.
