Marion ‘Wendy’ Lockwood, 73, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on October 5, 2016. She was born on July 7, 1943 and was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Cresson Potts McGlinn and Louise Lea McGlinn, and her sister, Ann McGlinn Stillwell.
Dr. Lockwood is survived by three sons: Frank McGlinn Lockwood and his husband Bernard August Wilke; Robert Carter Lockwood and his wife Julia VanValkenburgh Lockwood; and, Christopher Lea Lockwood and his wife Audra Nessing Lockwood. She is also survived by five grandsons: Robert Carter Lockwood, Jr.; Richard VanValkenburgh Lockwood; Frank McGlinn Lockwood, II; Nicholas Edward Lockwood; and, Christopher Lea Lockwood, Jr. Also surviving are two sisters: Lisa Preston and Sandy Fetter. Her loyal pet companion, Kolbe, will remain with the family.
Wendy was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and attended the Shipley School. She attended Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she served as Student Body President. After graduation, she devoted herself to the service of her family and ultimately settled in Macon, Georgia. Wendy served her church and her community for many years as director of the SERVE social services program at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
In her mid-40’s, Wendy decided to continue her life of service by helping children and families in need. She returned to school and obtained a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Mercer University and a Doctor of Psychology Degree from the Fielding Institute. Upon attaining her Ph.D., Wendy provided counseling to children and families through her practice at Ingleside Counseling Resources in Macon.
Wendy was also a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where she Chaired the United In Love Capital Campaign, the Church Pastoral Council and the Stewardship Council. She faithfully worshipped every day at St. Joseph’s Adoration Chapel at 5:00 a.m.
In 2014, Dr. Lockwood retired from the active practice of Psychology and moved to Huntsville, Alabama to be closer to her grandchildren. In Huntsville, she joined Good Shepherd Catholic Church, where she remained a faithful member until her death. Wendy and Kolbe were active members of the Huntsville Obedience Training Club, where they participated in Rally and Obedience competitions, winning numerous awards. Kolbe is a certified service dog, and he and Wendy frequently served school children by assisting with reading lessons in a calm and welcoming environment.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2016, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A funeral mass will occur at 11 a.m. Saturday October 8, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 6051, Albert Lea, Minnesota, 56007; or, the charity of your choice.
