logoMONTGOMERY – Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information Division shows that the most online wanted ads were for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, registered nurses, and retail salespersons, with 7,422 ads placed for those occupations in July. Overall ads increased over the month by 400.
The Help Wanted Online (HWOL) data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, www.joblink.alabama.gov, and other sources; such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites. There were 41,277 online ads this month, of those 17,617 were new ads.

“Nursing positions continue to stay in the top as ‘most wanted’ position,” said Fitzgerald
Washington, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Labor. “Demand is up nearly 50 percent
over last year. With an average hourly salary of close to $30, these positions are very desirable.
Staff at our Career Centers can help you if you’d like to break into this field with free
educational and vocational assistance.”
According to occupational data from HelpWantedOnline, Alabama is seeing a sharp rise in
demand for Automotive Specialty Technicians. Online ads over 90-days old have doubled in the
past two months. Growth for this occupation over the period from 2014 to 2024 is projected to
be over 500 jobs. Sixty percent of Automotive Service Technicians are employed by
Automotive Dealers and Automotive Repair and Maintenance Industries.
