Carolyn was a resident of Decatur for many years, yet her heart could be found in Florence, the place of her birth and fondest memories. It was there, that she was greatly influenced by Ms. Maud Lindsay, who planted the seed; inspiring and allowing her to write stories and poetry of her own.
While, she faced much adversity in life, she met it with unmatched courage, and allowed it to strengthen and mold her into the woman that she became. It is her profound wisdom, grace and love that drew so many to her. She was both authentic, and rich in faith; the most dependable, affectionate and loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She was married to her life’s love, W.L. Martin for 62 years, to whom she remained faithful throughout her life. She will be remembered for her one-of-a-kind compassion, listening ear, gentle touch, strength, determination, resilience, and generosity with both her time and talent, and one must not forget her cornbread.
Most importantly, Carolyn yielded to Jesus, and ministered unto him by using the gifts He entrusted to her by serving others with the entirety of her being. She will be deeply mourned, remembered, and celebrated.
The family wishes to acknowledge and give thanks to Dr. Scott Matthews, Dr. James Boyle, Dr. Steven Chandler and to her dedicated team of nurses at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
And yes, there was “Joy in the Morning!”
