On Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at 1:30 a.m. William “Bill” Black Jr. died peacefully surrounded by his family.
A native of Sheffield, Alabama, Bill was a military veteran and a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Despite growing up during the Jim Crow era when blacks were not allowed to enter the local library, Bill had a passion for reading and discussing current events. All who knew him will miss those lively discussions, his brash sense of humor, and signature wit.
Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ludel; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Black and Peter Curran; daughter, Andrea Clarke; grandsons, Peter and William Curran; sister, Frances Sledge; and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Holiday Inn (2 Montgomery Village Ave., Gaithersburg, Maryland). Interment will follow at a later date at the Arlington National Cemetery.
