HUNTSVILLE– December 15, 2015- Huntsville International Airport hosts ribbon cutting event for the unveiling of new glass jet bridges at gates 2A and 2B. These are the first installations in a series of jet bridges which will be incorporated at the facility by thyssenkrupp Airport Systems Inc. The estimated date of completion for the first phase of this project is May 2016. Phase one will include seven of the twelve bridges at HSV. The total project will find completion in October of 2020.
The current jet bridges were installed in 1989 and are standard narrow hallways without windows or doors. These bridges are functional, but are being replaced due to age and wear. A jet bridge is the passenger’s first or final experience at an airport. “Huntsville International Airport has purchased thyssenkrupp’s Apron Drive Crystal Bridges to provide passengers with natural light, a more appealing, less restrictive and confined experience,” said Richard Tucker, Executive Director for the Port of Huntsville. “We believe the addition of these bridges is very positive and increases comfort for passengers and aesthetics at our facility.”

The total cost of this project is 11.8 million dollars and it is being funded by an entitlement grant. Johnson Contractors, of Huntsville, is the general
contractor for this project.
