MONTGOMERY - Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Workforce’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in September 2026, there were 130,504 job ads posted in Alabama. This is a 3.9% increase over the month from August 2026 and a 34.8% increase over the year from September 2025.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Customer Service Representatives, Retail Salespersons, General and Operations Managers and Fast Food and Counter Workers with 11,663 ads placed for those occupations in September.

In September 2026, the median advertised wage was $59,280 per year.  There were 0.49 candidates for every one job opening in September 2026.

“September’s job posting data reflects continued strength and momentum in Alabama’s labor market, with more than 127,000 online job advertisements statewide—nearly 3,000 more than in August. This continued growth demonstrates that employers across Alabama are actively seeking workers and creating opportunities in a broad range of industries,” said Workforce Secretary Greg Reed.

“Once again health professions, retail, hospitality, and management careers continue to account for the bulk of job listing activity, while Alabama’s aerospace industry is also creating exciting opportunities for job seekers, with more than 500 aerospace-related positions available. From advanced manufacturing and engineering to skilled trades and technical occupations, these openings highlight the diverse career pathways available to Alabamians and the continued growth of one of our state’s leading industries.

“The nearly 4 percent monthly increase in online job ads, coupled with strong year-over-year growth and continued employer demand, underscores the resilience of Alabama’s economy. These trends also reinforce the importance of workforce development initiatives that connect job seekers with rewarding, in-demand careers and ensure employers have access to the skilled talent they need to grow.”
