James Calven Swinea Sr., age 82, passed on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Elkins Funeral Home, of Florence. Services will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel, with Randy Baker officiating. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Percy and Eva Eudora Swinea, and his brother, Hollis Swinea.
James is survived by his wife, Rebecca K. Swinea, of 52 years; his son, James Calven Swinea Jr. and wife, Jacqueline, of Birmingham; his daughter, Jennifer S. Jacquet and husband, Thom, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; three grandchildren, Jack, Beckham and Maren Jacquet; two sisters, Rebecca Danley, of Florence, and Lucille Ratliff, of Ashville, Alabama; one sister-in-law, Sandra Swinea; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Swinea was a member of Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ and a graduate of Mars Hill Bible School, University of North Alabama and the University of Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Mars Hill Bible School, 698 Cox Creek Parkway, Florence, AL 35630 ATTENTION: Business Office.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
