Mary “Ellen” George, age 80, went to be with our Lord on July 30, 2015, after a sudden illness. A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m. at Florence Blvd. Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Seccle Mae Johnson, her brother, Jimmy Nickens, her sister-in-law, Ann Nickens, and her newborn son, Stephen Brent George.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Daniel; her son, George; two grandchildren, Stacey Moseley (Dozie) and Ronnie Hanback, Port Orange, Florida; one great-grandson, Mason; two nieces, Melissa McCravy (Killen) and Doddie Aday (Sheffield); and four nephews, Thyron, Bobby, Stephen, and Shannon Nickens, all of Sheffield.
Ellen was a lifelong resident of the Shoals, but the past two years she had been residing in Port Orange, Florida with her grandson.
She worked and managed the restaurant Biscuit Village (Muscle Shoals) for over 20 years where she made lifelong friends and a lifetime of memories.
Baptized by Brother Perry Taylor, she rededicated her life to the Lord. She became a member of Florence Blvd. Church of Christ and began working in World Bible School.
Ellen had so many things about her that we held dear. She was a giver of love, joy, and simple things. She was funny and knew how not to take herself so seriously while at the same time she was brave and courageous. She always tried to see the good even when things got bad. She never met a stranger and was “Granny” to many, but her pride and joy was her great-grandson, Mason.
We love you Granny!
In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the American Heart Association.
The family would like to say “thank you” to Robert H. (with all our love), Janice Rutherford, Molly Jones, Brandi Wilson, and Dr. Felix Morris and office for all your past help.
