Jerome “Jerry” Robert Redus, 77, peacefully passed away on March 20, 2015. He was born in 1937 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Ralph and Emily Redus. After graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in physics, Jerry married Elizabeth Ann Myers in 1961 and settled in Huntsville, AL. He served two years in the US Army before having a long career as an engineer and engineering manager for NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. Jerry was involved in the design of the Apollo spacecraft as well as the Space Shuttle; at the time of his retirement, he was Chief of the Propulsion Systems Division.
Following his retirement from NASA, Jerry worked as an aerospace consultant for several years. He became a Master Gardner and spent many hours volunteering at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens as well as beautifying his own yard. Jerry also became a Spiritual Director and spent many years helping others in this role. Throughout his life, Jerry was very involved in the Presbyterian Church (USA), serving in his local congregation, presbytery, synod, and general assembly.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann Redus; son, Bob Redus, daughter-in-law, Anita Redus, and their children Aaron and Jonathan; daughter, Beth Hammer, son-in-law, Sean Hammer, and his son, Brandon Hamrysak; daughter, Meg Redus, her partner, April Shavkin, and their children, Eric and Adam.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Faith Presbyterian Church.
