There is one less flower in life’s garden today. Sarah Frances Pollock Edwards shed her last petal on January 22, 2015 after a valiant five-year battle with t-cell lymphoma.
She leaves behind her loving husband of nearly 54 years, Ronald E. Edwards of Lawrenceburg, TN; 5 precious children, Dana (Timothy) Nolan of Shelbyville,TN, Doug Edwards, Daniel (Stephanie) Edwards, and Drew (Brooke) Edwards, all of Lawrenceburg, and Don (Ariane) Edwards of Berlin, Germany; and the joys of her life–thirteen grandchildren: Daniel (Jennifer), Sam, and Micah Simpkins, Kelsey, Ben, and Lauren Edwards, Sarah and Hannah Nolan, Emma, Andrew, and Carson Edwards, and Logan and Amber Edwards. She was the adoring baby sister of Fred (Frances) Pollock (deceased), Martha (Delton) Porter of Portland, TN, and Doug (Ann) Pollock of Lawrenceburg, and she also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by four adoring chihuahuas, KoKo, Babe, Sweeney, and Dolly, whose devotion to her was without bounds.
Sarah, our “purple rose,” bloomed for 75 years. She was born in the home of her parents, R.R. And Willie Lynch Pollock (deceased), in downtown Lawrenceburg, TN in 1939. She attended Lawrence County High School, where she was crowned Miss LAW-CO-HI in 1957. She attended the University of Tennessee at Memphis, training to be a cytotechnologist. She was the first cytotechnologist hired by Maury County Hospital, and in this career, she helped to detect the cancer of others for close to 40 years. She married on Ground Hog’s Day in 1961 and celebrated each anniversary wishing she had married in a warmer season! After transplanting to Brentwood, TN for 30 years, she returned to her home soil in Lawrenceburg in 2001, where she joyfully retired and tended her gardens and flowers. She was happiest when she was playing in the dirt, but getting her toes into the sand of any beach was a close second.
Sarah was a friend to everyone, from her brethren at the Marcella Falls church of Christ which she attended, to neighbors, to random strangers at Krogers. She loved making new friends playing “Words with Friends” on her iPad, and she was an avid crossword puzzle player. She loved the color purple, elephants, and anything that saved money. Her favorite time of the year began when planting season arrived and ended at the first frost. She adored swimming in the ocean or playing with her grandchildren in her beloved pool. Most of all, she was “just a Christian,” and she leaves a legacy of faith instilled in her children and grandchildren, who will always remember her many favorite proverbs and quotations.
