SHEFFIELD – Here is the working theory from Chief Greg Ray... Just as a friend of George Henry Morris II. pulled up to the house this morning on South 9th Avenue for a visit, Morris’ son, George Henry Morris III, came running out of the house and asked to be driven away from the place. He was bleeding profusely. The visitor vacated her car, Morris took it and drove it away.

There was smoke coming from inside the structure. And that’s the working theory of an altercation aftermath, according to Chief Ray. What happened just prior to this point in the timeline is still being worked out, but it appears that the elder Morris, 63, died of stab wounds just a few minutes before smoke started pouring from the house and Fire Units were called by neighbors.

This all took place a bit before 10:00am.

Chief Ray told the Quad-Cities Daily that, while an official autopsy on the body is pending, it seems apparent that the elder Morris succumbed to multiple stab wounds.

The younger Morris, according to reports, was located at a hamburger place in Tuscumbia in severe medical distress from his wounds. He was transported to Helen Keller Hospital where he was treated and released into the custody of Sheffield Police. He is being held in Sheffield City Jail pending a determination of charges, if any, Tuesday, September 2, by Colbert County District Attorney Bryce Graham, Jr.
