FLORENCE – Lauderdale County School Board member and Shoals business leader, Dan Beavers is in jail this afternoon at the Florence/Lauderdale Detention Center. And from the looks of things, he isn’t expected to get out any time soon.

In March, Beavers was convicted  in District Judge Carole Coil Medley’s courtroom of three counts of operating his heating and air conditioning company without a license. According to the Alabama Board of Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors, Beaver’s license to do business of this sort in the state was revoked in October 2007.

Today, Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly’s office had Beavers back in Medley’s courtroom on 3 more charges of working without a license after he was sentenced in March. Connolly made a motion to impose the three one-year sentences that Beavers was given when he was first convicted. That motion was granted, and Beavers was taken to the lockup to begin his sentence. The three convictions each carried a year in jail and are to be served concurrently.

District Attorney Chris Connolly said that Beavers was observed by his office conducting business. As little as two weeks after the March conviction, Connolly said that Beavers was photographed in the Bellmead area working on an individual’s air conditioning system. In addition to that, evidence was presented to Judge Medley that Beavers had been running advertisements in the TimesDaily newspaper.

Beavers is expected to serve the full year in jail, Connolly said. He indicated that there are no provisions for parole in misdemeanor cases.
