MONTGOMERY-Secretary of State Jim Bennett announced today there have been over 2,300 free photo voter ID cards produced in the state. This number is in line with the anticipated production number released earlier by the Secretary of State’s office.
“We want to remind every voter there is going to be a change at the polls with this new photo voter ID requirement. If a voter does not have an acceptable form of ID, he or she may still receive one for free at their local Board of Registrars Office or in the Secretary of State’s office,” Bennett said.
Photo voter identification cards can be obtained by a voter up to, on and even after the day of the election. There is no cut-off date to receive a free photo voter ID. Information on acceptable forms of identification can be found on http://www.alabamavoterid.com/.

Bennett said he hopes to see many voters at the polls next Tuesday and projects that there will be around 25- 27% of registered voters show up to vote. In the last gubernatorial election for Alabama in 2010, there was 32% turnout in that primary.
“While we would hope that number will be larger, that is what we are projecting. I encourage every voter to participate in the elections process and exercise their right to vote. If you don’t vote, don’t complain about the outcome,” Bennett said.
Secretary Bennett also reminded voters of the website http://www.alabamavotes.gov/ which has information for voters such as polling location information, sample ballots, and absentee ballot information.
Bennett said even though Monday, June 2nd, is an official state holiday, the elections division will be open and staff will be available to answer questions prior to the June 3rd primary.
“We will be available to answer any questions that voters may have concerning photo voter ID or other issues related to the primary election. We are here and ready to assist,” said Bennett.
Polls will be open from 7 AM to 7 PM statewide on Tuesday, June 3rd.
