LAWRENCE COUNTY – Lots of folks turned out Sunday afternoon for the Ribbon Cutting ceremony and cookout at MS Industries facility. The company is an American-owned research and mining development company.
The company held this event to introduce itself to the Northwest Alabama community of people who are interested, both pro and con, in the recovery of products from petroleumย richย deposits in this area, known as Hartselle Sandstone. Company engineers and scientists were on hand to answer questions about the process. One of the first things MS Industries wants folks around there to know is that the Hartselle Sandstone is nothing like the controversial tar sands up in Alberta Canada. They say that their recovery techniques are entirely different from the Canadian deposits. The recovery of these products, a process refined by MSI, is designed to be as low-impact on the environment as possible. Any comparison to the huge stripmining techniques of the 20th Century in Alabama, where huge swaths of land were left un-restored, is unfounded. The company stressed that land recovery after the resources have been harvested begins immediately afterward. This, they say, is a very low impact type of mining.
The Quad-Cities Daily was on hand to take some EVENT PHOTOS and we present them here.
