Ross White, 82, of Red Bay, Ala., died Monday, March 24, 2014, at ECM Hospital, Florence, Ala. He was born July 27, 1931, in the Halltown community and was retired from Reynolds Aluminum. He was a member of Red Bay Free Will Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 56 years. He was president of Franklin Electric Cooperative Board. He was a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War and was chaplain of American Legion Post No. 120 in Red Bay.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Red Bay Free Will Baptist Church with Brother Steve Lindsay, Brother David Corum, and Brother Clayton Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Halltown Cemetery, Vina, Ala. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Ala. will be in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Agnes White, Red Bay, Ala.; three daughters, Donna Purser (Jimmy), Red Bay, Ala., Tammy Hampton (Clayton), Clinton Township, Mich., and Melissa Evans (Ben), St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Jamie Purser (Mandy), Justin Purser, Sarah Jenkins (Brent), Joshua Hampton (Kim), Jonathan Hampton, Anna Evans, Connor Evans, and Lily Evans; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Jimmy “J.D.” White (Sicily); one sister, Brenda Frame (Ron); and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Sarah White, and sisters and brothers, Terry Fallon, Lee Pottenger, L.C. White, Thomas White, and John Edward White.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Purser, Justin Purser, Joshua Hampton, Jonathan Hampton, Connor Evans, and Kaleb Burroughs. Honorary pallbearer will be Alex Burroughs.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today at Red Bay Free Will Baptist Church and will continue until service time on Thursday.
