Joseph Laurence Stanley – Obituary

joseph   Joseph Laurence Stanley, age 82, of Sheffield, died after a brief illness at his home, Monday, March 17, 2014. His family will receive friends Wednesday 1-2 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Brother David Lee officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
     Mr. Stanley was born in Tuscumbia and was a true southern gentleman. He was a graduate of Deshler High School and attended Auburn University and Florence State College. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired in 1981 as Purchasing Agent for Ford Motor Co and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tuscumbia.  He was an accomplished trombonist and member of the Big Band and Little Big Band for several years and was a member of the Auburn Knights. He was also a member of the Tennessee Valley Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf for many years.   Joe was loved by all children, especially his nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; Walter Lee Stanley and Laura Alice Stanley, his beloved wife, Rebecca Wine Stanley, infant daughter, brothers, Jarman Stanley and Jack Stanley; brothers-in-law, Charles Williams and George Manush; sister-in-law, Monteen Stanley and granddaughter, Hannah Wood.
He is survived by his loving wife of twenty five years, Linda Painter Stanley; son, Joseph L. Stanley Jr.,; grandson, Drew Stanley; great granddaughter, Gracie Stanley; brother, Jerry Stanley; sisters, Sarah Williams and Betty Manush; stepchildren, Tony Wood and wife Debbie, Anne Wood Behel and husband Corey granddaughters, Sara Gipson, Sidney Gipson, Emily Wood, Olivia Wood, Carly Behel, Camryn Behel, and a host of special nieces and nephews.
