LightbulbNORTHWEST ALABAMA-With power temperatures falling and power demands soaring, the Tennessee Valley Authority is asking customers to voluntarily conserve electricity.

Temperatures across the Tennessee Valley are expected to fall into the single digits tonight, creating heavy demands for electrical power.  TVA is asking resident to reduce electricity usage through Friday afternoon to help prevent power outages.

In an Interview with the Quad-Cities Daily, Russellville Utilities CEO Charles Canida would like to encourage customers to use their electricity wisely during the up coming cold snap. Officials suggest that a reduction of power usage would help ensure a supply of power to essential services.

“Try and keep the temperature inside your home at 68 degree and when you leave your home try and keep it at 55” Canida said.

He also suggested customers should check their air filters, because this may put unnecessary strain and raise electricity usage.

as a final note Canida said “one thing many people don’t think about is closing their fireplaces, a lot of heat can escape from your fire place”

It is also suggested that residents postpone the use of appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, cooking equipment, and by turning off non-essential lights. Residents should also turn off their heating systems and to wait at least a minimum of 15 minutes after power has come back on before restarting.

This is a warning for all of the North West  Alabama and in the event of an outage, residents should follow all of the suggestions made.
