Garvin D. Gray, 52, died suddenly Saturday, November 23, 2013, in West Point. He was born May 20, 1961, to Sam Earl and Jo Ann Gray. He was a loving husband to Emily Franks Gray for 30 years. He was a graduate of Belmont High School where he lettered in football. He continued his education by attending Itawamba Junior College on a football scholarship. He was a 1985 graduate of Mississippi State University, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, School of Forest Resources with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry and Wildlife. He was employed by the United States Army Corps of
Engineers at the Waterway Management Center Bay Springs Site Office and The Jamie L. Whitten Historical Center. He was a graduate of the Emerging Leaders Forum, the Advanced 202 O & M Contracts, GIS Introduction 2004, Advanced Visitor Assistance, 2001, and was a Red Cross and CPR Instructor. He was an Eagle Scout.​
He was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He and his family faithfully attended Fulton Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, working in his garden, and football. He was a loving husband and father and was loved by many for his compassion and kind spirit.
Services honoring his life will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jeff Moses and Bro. Scott Nicholson officiating. A graveside service will follow at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Gray, daughter, Emily Kandiace Gray, son, Kody Douglas Gray, mother, Jo Ann Gray, father-in-law, Roy Franks, mother-in-law, Gaynell Jackson, all of Fulton, sister, Cindy Gray, of Southaven, brother, Tim Gray (Jennifer), and niece, Taylor Gray, all of Tuscombia. He was preceded in death by his father, Sam Earl Gray.
Pallbearers will be Terrell Pearson, Wesley Graham, Harry Stone, Jr., Todd Holley, Jay Nail, Bobby Lowery and Terry Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Underwood, Chris Basham, Mike Carter, Jayson Adams, and Dennis Stewart.
