Tressie Carlean “Hooper” Hudson of Decatur, died Friday, November 8, 2013, at the age of 89.
Carlean was a lifelong resident of Decatur. Her childhood and early years were spent living on Wilson Street. After graduating from Riverside High School, Carlean was employed for more than 30 years as a telephone operator for South Central Bell. She married childhood friend, Clarence Clifford Hudson, and they were happily married for more than 50 years. In later years, Carlean was a resident of the Rolling Hills area of Decatur, living there with Clarence until his death in 1999.
Carlean was a charter member of the Parkview Baptist Church, formerly Northside, and served in many church capacities. When health allowed, she enjoyed cooking, entertaining the grandchildren and traveling, especially to the Smoky Mountains. Carlean lived a peaceful life, and this was reflected most perfectly in her love for her family and friends. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend.
Carlean was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; sisters, Juanita (Hooper) Shafer, Margaret Hooper and Jean (Hooper) Whitworth, all of Decatur. She is survived by son, Michael Keith Hudson (wife Carolyn) of Florence; son, Timothy Allen Hudson of Decatur; sister, Billie (Hooper) Bays (husband Richard) of Decatur; and granddaughters, Mandy Hudson of Nashville, Holly Hudson Carroll (husband Joseph) of Meridianville and Megan Hudson of Mobile.
Visitation with the family will be at Parkview Baptist Church today at noon, followed by the funeral at 2 p.m., also at the church. Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home will be handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Alacare Hospice or Samaritan’s Purse via Parkview Church.
