Funeral Services for Mrs. Paula Underwood, age 92 of Lineville, will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Barfield Baptist Church with Rev. John Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro, GA at 3:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time.
Mrs. Underwood passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at her home. She was born and raised in Cleveland, Georgia and was a graduate of Brown High School. She married her high school sweetheart shortly after, and was a caring stay at home mom and homemaker. When her children were young, She enjoyed teaching piano lessons, playing golf, and going swimming. Mrs. Underwood also worked as a secretary for Kilpatrick Elementary School and active member of Community Bible Church in Jonesboro. She and her late husband even have a hallway named after them, “Underwood Hall”. Mrs. Underwood moved to Clay County around 20 years ago, and began attending Barfield Baptist Church, where she served as a choir member, Sunday School Teacher, and faithful attendant during that time. She would also help at the local elementary schools helping children learn to read. She was well known for her style of dress, always well put together with jewelry to match. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister to many.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Dennison (Donnie) of Lineville; two sons: Joe Underwood (Jama) of Noblesville, IN, and John Underwood Jr. (Rhonda) of McDonough, GA; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; plus a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Mae Sosebee; her husband, John Boyd Underwood Sr.; one daughter, Paulette Trepl; one sister and two brothers.
Active Pallbearers will be Bruce Trepl, John Trepl, Brad Trepl, Josh Trepl, Boyd Trepl, Justin McCollum, Luke McCollum, and Joseph Chandler.
Her visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 13,2026 at Barfield Baptist Church beginning at 9:30 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M.
