Roy Nell Saylors, 92, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Loved ones surrounded her, both near and far, with their hearts and admiration…She loved and lived well!
There is a lot of life to celebrate in her 92 years! Originally from Palmer, Texas, Roy Nell embodied the Texas-sized friendliness and grit that others could not help but be drawn to. That cornerstone grit fueled her passion for leadership, professionally as a female business owner in the mid 1970’s to her involvement in civic, military, arts, and social clubs well into her 80’s. From BPW (Business and Professional Women) to Broadway Theatre League (a founding member), Roy Nell was equally comfortable in her “A woman’s place is in the house… and Senate” T-shirt to formal evening attire for a night out enjoying The Arts.
She was active in her later years with Semper Fi Community Task Force and The Marine Corps League and rarely missed an opportunity to enjoy time with friends and active membership in numerous garden clubs, the GE Women’s Club, and bridge socials that allowed her to share her beautiful smile and generous hospitality.
Roy Nell had many interests and hobbies. She loved to paint, cook, travel, and love her friends and family well. “Lunch with the Ladies” was a cherished event even into her final days.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Marshall Stuart and Dillard Lee Saylors, Jr.
Survivors include her children, John Stuart of Huntsville, Roy Ann Andrews (Blake) of Birmingham, Leeanne Saylors of Amelia Island, FL, Cathy Herndon (Robert) of Huntsville, Kevin Saylors (Debrasu) of Huntsville, and Kirk Saylors (Debbie) of Red Boiling Springs, TN; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A small graveside service for family will be held at The Saylors Cemetery in Sparta, TN the following day.
