Marion Benjamin “Bennie” Holcombe, age 90 of Hackleburg, AL passed away peacefully on
August 26, 2026. He was born May 8, 1936 in Hackleburg, AL. Bennie was the son of W.T. and
Ellie Holcombe.
In 1955, while picking guitars at a relatives home, he met the love of his life, Pat. She had
never seen anyone pick a guitar like that before and he too was quite impressed with her rhythm
playing and beautiful singing voice. That chance meeting sparked a marriage that would stand
the test of time and last 70 years.
Pat was right, Bennie was quite the guitar picker. He went on to play with Carmel Taylor, a
songwriter who wrote several hits for George Jones; Rick Hall, who founded FAME Studios; Billy
Sherrill, one of Nashville’s Music Producers, and later played with the famous fiddler Benny
Martin.
Not only was Bennie a great musician, he was also an expert marksman and an avid hunter and
fisherman.
Bennie is survived by his wife, Pat Holcombe; his sons Bennie (Mavis) Holcombe, Conny
(Angela) Holcombe and Terry (Pam) Holcombe; his grandchildren, Amanda (Ed) Hannah,
Jason Holcombe, Katie (Tim) Kirkpatrick, and Trentt (Amanda) Taylor; his great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
A private family funeral will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Nichols Marion County Funeral Home.
